Special Issue:
Refugee and Migrant Integration in Developed Nations: The Discovery of Discourse
Guest Editor, Dr Peter Hancock, Centre for Social Research, Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia
School of Psychology and Social Science Edith Cowan University
The problems associated with refugee intakes into developing nations, particularly from war torn nations, areas of economic and natural disasters and countries that have undergone political turmoil are well documented. Most developing nations have implemented programs to help often traumatised refugee entrants adjust to life in a new nation. In fact many refugees complain that they have been ‘over-researched’ but their comments, ideas and suggestions are rarely acted upon by government and non-government agencies. This is often the result of government funding in developed nations being contingent upon research that is objective, rigorous and preferably quantitative. The special issue seeks to explore this problem and suggest ways to ensure that the discourse and narrative of refugees do make it onto the desks of policy makers. Researchers, NGOs and others who have research papers that fit within this theme (from any area of the research spectrum) are asked to submit these by email on or before April 1st 2009 to Dr Peter Hancock, Centre for Social Research, Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia, p.hancock@ecu.edu.au (please call me on 0438948880 if you need any further advice).
