Invited guests include the mayors of Mesilla and Las Cruces, Las Cruces City Council members, the Las Cruces city manager, NM State Representatives, the NM Department of Cultural Affairs, arts educators, arts media, artists, arts organizations, gallery owners, economic development organizations, education leaders, and community members who want to make Las Cruces & Mesilla Valley an arts destination.

Overview:

  1. 8 Sep – NMSU Small Business & Entrepreneurship Classes hosts – 1st Convention of Las Cruces Arts & Culture Scene : We kick off the Arts Convention with Ed Breeding’s documentary film (26 minutes) “Heart of the Arts: Las Cruces & Mesilla Valley, New Mexico. Brief welcomes from Cindi Fargo (Las Cruces Downtown), Chris Faivre (Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau).  This is followed by Talking Stick Circle meetings where participants pass the Talking Stick to develop three goals for the Arts Convention. Form 12 Task Forces; Get to know one another; Learn to Hear & Tell one another’s Stories, & develop 3 goals for the Sep meetings of the Convention. (where: Corbett Center's Dona Ana Room at New Mexico State University from 4PM to 8PM )Talking Stick Institute will provide the meeting facilitation.
  2. 15 Sep - NMSU Small Business & Entrepreneurship Classes (Mgt 448 & 548) & System Complexity Class (Mgt 655) hosts 2nd inaugural ‘open meeting’ of Las Cruces Arts & Culture Scene (10 task forces) to meet to make action plans to make ‘Las Cruces Arts Scene’ a Strategic Identity for the City & Region. (where: Corbett Center's Otero Room at New Mexico State University from 4PM to 8PM ). Talking Stick Institute will provide the meeting facilitation. Welcome by Mesilla Mayor Michael Cadena; Mayanna Howard (Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery); Special presentation by Rich Williams - New Mexico Main Street Director & State Coordinator of New Mexoco’s Arts and Cultural Districts - to kick off the event.
  3. 22 Sep - NMSU Small Business & Entrepreneurship Classes (Mgt 448 & 548) & System Complexity Class (Mgt 655) hosts 3rd open meeting of 10 Task Forces and of Las Cruces Arts & Culture Scene (Corbett Center's Dona Ana Room at New Mexico State University from 4 to 8 PM). Talking Stick Institute will provide the meeting facilitation. Dean Carruthers of NMSU Business College will give a welcome to the Convention concerning the importance of Arts economy to Las Cruces and Mesilla
  4. 8 Dec 2008 - NMSU Small Business Classes host 4th Arts & Culture Alliance Convention: to evaluate the task force interviention projects conducted between the 3 Sept Conventions and Dec. Task force members will grade the student projects.

WHY: Because Las Cruces has the potential to be a 1/2 Billion Dollar Arts Destination for Arts Buyers and Arts Tourists - no one knows about it - until CITY + CHAMBERS + EDUCATION + ARTS pulls together to Market Las Cruces and Regiion as an ARTS DESTINATION.

Who: Task forces for the Arts Service Organization Leaders (see these nomination lists List of Arts Service Organizations/ Museums & Galleries List). Looking for organizaiton leaders to meet together and share ideas on how to develop the Las Cruces Arts Industry

What: The Task Forces are an Influencer Group Influencer Group: Over 100 leaders and interested artists to work in developing Roles, Rules, and Goals for interventions and innovations you get to plan and organize:Task Force Options: (Please Join one of the following taskforces)
