This is a reply to Phillis Valdez's letter to the editor in the Sun News, Wed Feb 5, 2003. I looked into each of the concerns raised in the letter. I put my response in the right column. However, this is not really a dialog. If talked it out, could we reach any common understanding? I think Hussein is a very bad man, but no threat to the USA war machine. I hope that Ms. Valdez does some more reading to get below the surface to the root causes of this war. More important, I hope that the USA does not go to war over a web of fear-pieces in mainstream press and Bush speeches that present connections that many scholars believe are unfounded.

Article Title: War

It amazes me that people say we do not want war. WE are in a war ever since the first world trade attempt, the 9/11 air bombing, the Oklahoma bombing, the Cole bombing, and many other instances.

Now if people think that you can deal with Saddam Hussein, who is a monster like Hitler and we just close our eyes, think again!

Both Hitler and Bush court the conservative Christian right, and implicate their acts of aggression in holy war. Both Bush and Hussein find weaker nations that can be enemies of the people. Hitler invoked the spectre of "the Red Menace;" Bush pronounces the spectre of the “Evil Axis.”  The difference is that Iraq was declawed in Gulf War I, in Dessert Fox, and continued bombing since.

He is part of Al Qaeda and has ties with all of the Islamic Jihad people and we are in a Jihad with them.

1. There is no proven link between Al Qaeda and Iraq. 2. There is no proof of massed chemical, nuclear, and bio weapons stockpiled to be used against the U.S.  America is the only country that believes the propaganda. 3. There is no proof that even if there were such weapons, that there is launch capability or intent to use them.

You also must know that Islam is not a peaceful religion and they intend that all the world should be Islam, and will do it by force and treachery, and they believe that the whole world will then be at peace. It is hard to fathom that the Islamics that have experienced the freedoms here, would ever want to be under a religion that mutilates women, stones women, cuts off hands and many other atrocities and just go backwards again!

Their Koran teaches that they are to rid the world of all Jews and Pagans, meaning everyone that is not Islamic is pagan!

Please read the January 2000 Issue of the Readers Digest in which it writes "How They Grow Terrorists." How can mothers want this? WE are fighting for our very survival and freedoms make no mistake!

Now as to the Israeli problem. That too, could be solved very quickly by all of the Arab countries absorbing their refugees as they have the money and resources to do just that! All other countries have absorbed their own! Israel owns less then one percent of the land mass there in the Middle East but the Islamics want it all and want to run the Jews into the sea!

Wake up folks, our president has many hard problems to deal with.

Trying to go in and just eliminate Saddam is almost impossible as he has so many doubles! We are in a lot of economic problems as well, but we must all work and pray together for him and our country instead of all the nit picking!

How do we resituate our differences? Obviously, Phillis believes one reality, and I see another. She has one story, I have a counter-story. We could split the difference and say both Saddam and Bush are strange leaders, both are doing things that may plunge the Earth into WWIII.  We could agree to disagree. But, that does not bring us to some place of mutual understanding.  I hope that Phillis Valdez will change her mind. I hope a lot of people will change their mind, and then even the arms industry, the oil industry, and George II will change his mind.
